White's tree frog (Litoria caerulea)

About me

Basic Info Home: G'day all you bonza fellas! As all you folks may have guessed I'm actually from Australia, but a few of us recently moved to New Zealand and the US.
Size: We're big boys for frogs, around 4 inches. Imagine a frog the size of your pen sitting on your desk! Streuth!
Favourite foods: Insects and spiders are tasty, just got to watch out for those webs, they're tricky blighters to get out of.
Environment: I love a nice wet place to hang out, you can't beat an environment which is moist and forested, or even a swamp – class!
Sounds like: BRAWK! BRAWK! BRAWK!

Further Info

Frogs not only drink through their skin, but they breathe through their skin too! In order to absorb oxygen through their skin efficiently, their skin must be moist. Unfortunately, this increases the risk of pathogens living on them.In order to combat this problem, frogs secrete peptides to destroy these pathogens. White’s tree frogs actually have a secretion which can help destroy human coldsores! Several peptides secreted by this frog have also been found to destroy HIV. In general, skin secretions of frogs have been found to contain important medicinal properties.

During the day they usually find a cool, dark and moist place to sleep. White’s tree frogs tend not to be seen or heard in the winter because they are off trying to keep moist, as mentioned before.

These frogs are also known as green tree frogs and dumpy tree frog because of their waxy green colour and rolling skin folds of fatty material!
